単語さえ引っかからなければ何の問題もなくすらすらと流れるように和訳できるはずです。

rationalとかobjectiveとかといった単語は京大の好きな科学的（笑）哲学的（笑）な単語ですので、覚えておいて損はありません。

あと冒頭のRightly or wronglyは和訳の際に文章全体を修飾するのかそれとも前半部分だけを修飾するのかを考えながら文章を読み進めておく方がいいですね。


後半。

and scientists are widely regarded as being able to <gather and interpret evidence> and <use it> to arrive at conclusions that are "scientifically proven," and so not just the product of ideology or prejudice.

able toの後のgatherとuseが並列関係にあるのはすぐに見抜けるはずです。

ところが読み進めると……あれ?

and so not just the product of ideology or prejudiceって名詞句やん。

ということはこのandがつないでいるのは名詞（句）のはずやんなー。

仕方がない、文脈に即して訳してみるか。

品詞がばらばらなので分かりづらいですよね＾＾；


解答: 正しいか間違っているかは別として、科学というものはしばしば客観的・理論的研究の究極の形であると考えられていて、科学者というものは広く証拠を集め、読み解き、そしてそれを用いて、イデオロギーや先入観に基づいたものではなく、「科学的に証明された」結論に達することができるものであると考えられている。
