「Freckles」

今回は少し趣向を変えて、「訳詞」をやってみたいと思います。

いつもの受験英語の堅苦しい訳から離れて、感ずるままに訳をしてみてください。

正解はありません。



All the memories I have are beautiful in my mind
But they don't feed the hunger deep inside my soul
And tonight I thought I'd be just sitting in my sorrow
And now I must wonder why
"What did it really mean to you?"
I just can't see it anymore

世界でただ1つの、猿と一緒に入れる温泉だと聞いて、私は真冬にそこへ出かけた。頭に雪を積もらせながらじっと温泉につかっている1匹の猿は、まるで哲学者のように見えた。人間と猿の違いは、私たちが思っているほど大きくないのでは……という気がふとした。


私の解答: I heard that there existed only one hot spring in the world you could enjoy with monkeys, and I set forth on the place in the middle of winter. I found to look like a philosopher a monkey sitting in the hot spring with snow on its head. Then an idea occured to me that the monkey may be an animal much closer to us, the human, than we think.

真冬: in [the middle of winter/midwinter ]

「違いは、私たちが思っているほど大きくない」はそのままmonkeys are not so different from humans as we thinkでも可です。

が、今回は「違いが大きくない」→「近い」と読みかえてan animal much closer to the humanとしてみました。
