Where do the pllutants come from? There are two main sources---- sewage and idustrial waste. As more detergent is used in the home, so more of it is finally discharged with the sewage into our rivers, lakes and seas. Detergent harms water birds by dissolving the natural fatty substances which keep their feathers waterproof. Sewage itself, if it is not properly treated, pollutes the water and prevents all forms of life in rivers and the sea from receiving the oxygen they need.

This eliminated the element of danger present in hunting and reduced the probability of starvation, as there was no longer the possibility of returning emty-handed from a foraging expedition.
